Before You Hire
Typical lead time is same day to a week; longer in peak season. Ask:
- What is your license number, and which state or city issued it?
- Can you send a current certificate of liability insurance and proof of workers’ compensation?
- Will the contract list the scope, materials, price, start and finish dates and payment schedule?
- Who pulls the permits, and are they included in the price?
- Who will run the job day to day, and will you use subcontractors?
West Virginia Rules
West Virginia has a statewide contractor license. Threshold: Residential $5,000 or more; commercial $25,000 or more. Read the West Virginia license summary.
- A proper load calculation matters more than matching the old unit’s size.
- Compare the same size and efficiency across quotes.
