Before You Hire

Typical lead time is often days to a few weeks, longer after big storms. Ask:

• What is your license number, and which state or city issued it?
• Can you send a current certificate of liability insurance and proof of workers’ compensation?
• Will the contract list the scope, materials, price, start and finish dates and payment schedule?
• Who pulls the permits, and are they included in the price?
• Who will run the job day to day, and will you use subcontractors?

Georgia Rules

Georgia has a statewide contractor license. Threshold: Based on scope of work; no project-dollar floor. Read the Georgia license summary.

• Be careful with door-knockers after storms; check the license first and never sign over an insurance claim on the spot.
• Compare by roofing square and material, not just the total.
