Before You Hire
Typical lead time is often days to a few weeks, longer after big storms. Ask:
- What is your license number, and which state or city issued it?
- Can you send a current certificate of liability insurance and proof of workers’ compensation?
- Will the contract list the scope, materials, price, start and finish dates and payment schedule?
- Who pulls the permits, and are they included in the price?
- Who will run the job day to day, and will you use subcontractors?
Ohio Rules
Ohio has no statewide general contractor license, and cities or counties set the rules. Threshold: None statewide for general contractors. Read the Ohio license summary.
- Be careful with door-knockers after storms; check the license first and never sign over an insurance claim on the spot.
- Compare by roofing square and material, not just the total.
